Some other unrealistic verses

More disagreements between Science and the Bible

Comment:- The Bible does not agree with modern science.

The Bible does say a number of things that are in the domain of science, and the Bible is wrong. This means that the Bible was written people, without the help or guidance of the God of the Universe.

You would expect the God of the Universe would know how His created Universe actually works.  Saying the authors of the time were primitive and unenlightened is no excuse.

A number of Bible verses that do not agree with modern science are given on the other pages. On this page  are some more of the many verses in the Bible that do not accord with science.

Because of these science difficulties, everything else mentioned in the Bible cannot be trusted and is suspect.  If the Bible was just a book of mythology there would be no problem.  However,  if people say it is a message from God, then every detail must be examined to verify it.

Nothing can be accepted as truth without extensive critical analysis.

Sun stands still:

Jos 10:12 – 13

12 Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.

13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. [Is] not this written in the
book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

(Newton’s 1st Law would apply here)

(The belief at the time was that the sun orbited the earth. As we know the earth revolves around it’s axis at a speed of about 1600 km/h (1000 mph) at the equator.  To make the sun appear to stop for a whole day, the earth would have to first be stopped suddenly from rotating.   Because of the inertia of things on the earth, everything on the surface of earth would suddenly fly forward relative to the earth (1600 km/h at the equator. Only at the poles would there be no forward momentum)  You would think this would cause a lot of havoc, which is not mentioned in the Bible.

If this could be explained imagine also the sudden loss in rotational energy.

How would this energy be dissipated? Momentum has to be conserved. To what other object was it transferred?

After a whole day of standing still, then the earth had
to
speed up again to rotate normally

(Is there any confirmation of this mind boggling event in
other cultures?)

2Ki 20:8

And Hezekiah said unto Isaiah, What [shall be] the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the LORD the third day?

9 And Isaiah said, This sign shalt thou have of the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he hath spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees, or go back ten degrees?

10 And Hezekiah answered, It is a light thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees: nay, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees.

11 And Isaiah the prophet cried unto the LORD: and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down in the dial of Ahaz.

(Similar to Jos 10:13, except worse — the earth would
have
to stop and suddenly reverse it’s direction of rotation)

The number of stars:

De 10:22

Thy fathers went down into Egypt with threescore and ten persons; and now the LORD thy God hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude.

De 1:10

The LORD your God hath multiplied you, and, behold, ye [are] this day as the stars of heaven for multitude.

De 28:62

And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude; because thou wouldest not obey the voice of the LORD thy God.

Jer 33:22

As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured: so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister unto me.

(Not so! There are more than 400 billion galaxies, each with
about
400 billion stars.  In all of man’s history the total number of people that have ever existed and are existing now is much less than 100 billion; much less than the stars in even one galaxy.  That means the Bible has an accuracy here of about 1 billionth of 1 % — pretty bad.

There can be no comparison of the number of people and the stars of heaven!!

You must also remember that the observable part of our universe is very small compared to the whole universe — most of it is so far away that light hasn’t
reached us from those parts.

This suggests that whoever had something to do with these verses did not know anything about the way the universe is.

These verses mean that the God of the Bible definitely could not be the God of the Universe.  The God of the Bible was ignorant of his own supposed creation!)

Breadth of Heaven:

De 4:32

For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God
created man upon the earth, and [ask] from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been [any such thing] as this great thing [is], or hath been heard like it?

Ps 19:6

His going forth [is] from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

(The universe is at about 15 billion light years in all
directions
from us to where we might consider the existence of the outer boundary of the universe we can see [Light year is the distance light travels in one year.  Actually the universe is not considered to be bounded.].  If you choose a star out there [at the our outer boundary], to this star the so called boundary of the universe is also about 15 billion light years from it in all directions.

There is no thing called the end of the heaven. The ends of heaven have is no meaning in the universe we live in.)

Height of Heaven:

Job 11:8

[It is] as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?

(Comment similar to the section above this one)

Pillars holding up Heaven:

Job 26:11

The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.

(The pillars holding up heaven.  Many ancients and evidently the God of the Bible believed heaven stayed up there by being supported by these pillars.  We now know there are no pillars.  Heaven is structured by gravity, the expanding universe, the velocity of the bodies in it.

For instance, planets do not fall into the sun because of the orbital velocities of the planets.  If somehow the orbital velocity of a planet suddenly became less, it would fall into the sun, not the earth.  No pillars needed. There are no pillars of heaven!)

Too much water:

Ge 7:19

And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that [were] under the whole heaven, were covered.

(High hills would include Mt. Everest.  Explain.

Where did all the water come from?)

Wind in Heaven:

Ps 78:26

He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind.

Jer 49:36

And upon Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam shall not come.

Mt 24:31

And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather
together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

(This is nonsense.  Somehow the writers of these
verses,
with the guidance of the God of the Bible, must have thought that the air extends to the ends of the universe, which to them were the ends of heaven.  We, being more knowledgeable, know it extends only a few tens of kilometers above the surface of the Earth.

The only wind in the near heaven is the solar wind from
the sun,
which moves outward in all directions from it, not just north, east, south, west.  The solar wind consists of a very low density plasma.  Stars would have a wind similar to the solar wind.

Of course, there are winds similar to the ones on earth
on other
planets with atmospheres, but not in heaven generally.)

Stars darkened:

Isa 13:10

For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.

(The evidence indicates the sun, by nuclear fusion, will
continue to
shine for at least 5 billion years yet.  The moon does not give her own light.  It reflects the light of the sun, so the moon will not darken [except briefly during an eclipse] for that length of time.

The constellations consist of stars, and there are many more stars beyond the constellations that will not darken until there life cycle of many millions of years is completed.

Stars are suns.  Many are approaching the end of their life cycle, but there are many new stars being formed all the time.

In this verse, knowledge of how the sun and moon produce light, and what stars are is lacking.)

Heavens rolls up like a scroll:

Isa 34:4

And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling [fig] from the fig tree.

Re 6:14

And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

(Galaxies of stars fall together and collide, but not down to earth.  Stars are falling towards each other in all directions, not down.  From the Doppler effect we know galaxies are most often flying apart as if from a monstrous explosion some 15 billion years ago. So most galaxies do stay apart.

Earth is as nothing to the tremendous masses and distances involved with all the host of heaven.

To say that you can roll the heavens together as a scroll indicates an ignorance of the God of the Bible of the immensity of the universe and how it works.  Many Ancients could imagine that the screen the stars are imbedded might be rolled up as a screen. They could imagine this screen  dissolving. They didn’t know better.)

Stars fall to Earth:

Da 8:10

And it waxed great, [even] to the host of heaven; and it cast down [some] of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them.

Mt 24:29

Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

Re 6:13

And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

Re 8:10

And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;

Re 9:1

And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.

(Most people in ancient times imagined the stars to be
like
pinpoints of light in the semi-spherical screen of heaven. This screen wasn’t all that far off.   The people that composed the verses that say the stars of heaven fall to earth probably thought stars would become like meteors when released from the screen of heaven.  Since everything seems to fall to the earth when released, it made sense that the stars would fall to the earth as well.  If the Bible is God inspired, and if this God is honest, and if this God knows His Creation,  then these verses would use words like meteors or burning rocks, not stars.

Contrary to what the authors of the Bible believed, we
know now
the sizes, structure, composition, etc. of the stars, and the long distances they are away from the Earth.  A star is about 1 million times as massive as the Earth.  Knowing this, it would be likely that the Earth may fall upward into one star, if it was close enough.  There is no way that stars can fall to the Earth. The verse that says a great star from heaven falls upon 1/3 of the Earth is ridiculous.

Again the Bible shows it’s ignorance of Creation — another major nail in the coffin of the Bible being God’s message to mankind. The only conclusion possible is that the Bible is a purely man-made composition. The Bible can be appreciated as a collection of mythological books.

It must also be remembered all the other so called Holy Books in the world are also purely man-made mythological books.)

Silence in Heaven:

Re 8:1

And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.

(Most of heaven is not dense enough material to transmit sound.  Most of heaven is essentially a vacuum, so there would be no sound anyway.  Silence in heaven for 1/2 hour is meaningless.

Heaven and Earth pass away:

Mt 5:18

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Mt 24:35

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

(And other verses like this.  Astronomical evidence
now shows that
the universe will expand forever, never collapse.  This means “heaven and earth shall pass away” will never happen to heaven, only for earth many billions of years from now.  Therefore these verses are saying that the all the laws and statutes are to be followed forever. — how many believers actually follow all of the strange laws and statutes of the Old Testament?)

The above events combined:

Mr 13:25

And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.

Mr 13:27

And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

Mr 13:31

Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

Heaven opens:

Lu 3:21  – 22

Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,

22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

(Heavens do not open.  This is a throw-back to when people thought of the heavens as a canopy.)

Third heaven:

2Co 12:2

I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell;
or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.

(All evidence points to only one heaven.  People of the past that didn’t know better thought there were a number of heavens.)

Disease to be cured by supernatural means:

2Ch 16:12 – 13

And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease [was] exceeding [great]: yet in his disease he sought
not to the LORD, but to the physicians.

13 And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign.

Joh 5:4

For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made
whole of whatsoever disease he had.

(The Bible considers diseases as supernatural, to be cured supernaturally.  See more.)

2Ki 6:5 – 7

5 But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into
the water:
and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.

6 And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast [it] in thither; and the iron did swim.

7 Therefore said he, Take [it] up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.

(Iron is much more dense than water, and will always sink
when it falls in.)

Mt 14:24 – 25

But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was
contrary.

25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

(A fantasy)

Mr 6:40 – 44

And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.

41 And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes,
he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave [them] to his
disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.

42 And they did all eat, and were filled.

43 And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments,
and of the fishes.

44 And they that did eat of the loaves were about five
thousand men.

(Another pleasant fantasy!  If this was that easy, why doesn’t Jesus feed all the starving people in the world today? Only if Jesus had given the recipe for doing this to his disciples. There is no evidence of this ever happening again.)
