The Bible is even tougher than I am. I say “no relic or any material
object is divine, although you can subordinate yourself to make it divine
for you personally. (e.g. building, book, idol, prayer beads, rosary, statue,
cross, rabbit’s foot, crystal) .”
In the Second Commandment of what people call the Ten Commandments,
the Bible commands that you shall not even make likenesses at all, of anything,
let alone worship them. Imagine no sculpture, no painting,
no picture signs, images!
Since TV, Computer images, Photographs, Movies are likenesses made by a machine and not by people directly, most true believers would probably say these are allowed.
In the Bible likeness and similitude are the same thing. Words that are synonyms
of ‘likeness’ are resemblance, portrait, image, reproduction, picture, rendering.
De 5:8
Thou shalt not make thee [any] graven image, [or] any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or
that [is] in the waters beneath the earth:
Ex 20:4
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth:
How many people actually obey the second commandment?
Very, very few!!
The Muslims actually follow this commandment much more closely than most Christians and Jews.
Another test of being truly a follower of Jesus
Christ is doing what he says. Jesus says all Bible law in detail is to
be obeyed until heaven passes away {this means forever}. This means that the
second commandment is to be obeyed. Again, if someone that claims
he is a follower of Jesus, that does not obey the second commandment
is really a fake — do not be persuaded by his Jesus talk.
Many believe that Jesus is also the God of the Old Testament,
who mandated the second commandment.
How many Bible Believers wear the image of a cross as ornamentation?
How many churches display the the image of a cross as part
of the architecture?
