When someone states that something is “RIGHT”, or that something is “WRONG”, or that something is the “TRUTH” because GOD says so, make sure you ask which GOD that someone is talking about.
GOD varies a lot.
When people talk about putting GOD back into the schools, government, etc. ask which GOD are they talking about.
There are many GODS that people believe in — there is an extremely large range of variations in the attributes that people believe their GOD has, therefore there are many GODS, possibly as many GODS as there are people that believe in a GOD.
Examples: Bible Believing Christians believe in all kinds of GODS.
The GOD of the Pope is not the same GOD of many members of the Catholic Church. Fundamentalist Pentecostals believe in a different GOD than the Fundamentalist Baptists. Liberal United Church people have a different GOD than the Reform Church GOD. The Mormon God differs radically from the Jehovah Witness GOD. Allah, the Islam’s God is not the
GOD of the Christian – Christians usually believe Jesus is God.
The Jewish GOD is very different than the Christian God.
Both Muslims and Jews do not believe Jesus is God at all.
The Jewish Religion, nor Christianity, do not consider Mohammed a prophet
And so on for other religion’s GODS such as the Hindu GODS, etc.
Even in a given congregation there are usually a variety of God beliefs, that can and do cause friction within the congregation. So, you cannot realistically talk about a GOD that is the same for all in any meaningful way.
Talking about GOD being put back into society only leads to conflict and in-fighting as we so often see in religious controversy.
The “GODS”, “PRAYERS TO THESE GODS”, or anything that invokes these GODS must be left out of secular institutions and confined to the private religious institutions or to the private person.
BEWARE of people that promote a certain public GOD or
perform public PRAYERS. They usually are trying to impose their personnel GOD on others to [very effectively] control or maintain power over others; or to promote a political agenda. God belief or God unbelief is a personnel thing, not public.
Public prayer is suspect — if you are in a position where you cannot avoid being absent when a public prayer is being uttered, you can always concentrate on something else to distract you from it. Private prayer is fine! This is a way of talking to yourself. — in my opinion the best verses attributed to Jesus are Matthew 6:5 – 7.
The only possible source of knowledge of the attributes of a possible GOD OF THE UNIVERSE would be the universe itself through the efforts of Science. The rest is pure opinion, often based on the inherited opinions expressed in “Holy” books or commentaries on them.
