Flat earth Bible verses

Flat earth Bible verses, e-mails and replies:

I put these e-mails on flat earth separate from the Creationism page.
Creationists generally believe in a round earth, in spite of the Bible verses
to the contrary.

Comments by Dr J:

>I’ve been reading your stuff, “pray tell me sir”, Where in the Bible
does it teach that the Earth is flat?

My reply:

Dear Dr J,

Some verses to show that the people that wrote these verses believed in a
flat earth follow. Words like “one end of the earth to the other end”,
“4 corners of the earth” These are words to describe a rectangular object.
Only the ancient Greek Secularists talked about the round earth and the
round heavens around the Earth — that there is no end or corner to a sphere.
They actually measured the circumference of the earth quite accurately
— these people had nothing to do with the God of the Bible.
Relevant parts are in single quotes ‘……’

Deuteronomy 13:7

7 [Namely], of the gods of the people which [are] round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the [one] end of the earth even unto the [other] end of the earth;

(Flat earth)

Deuteronomy 28:64

64 And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, [even] wood and stone.

1 Samuel 2:10 *

10 The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

Job 28:24 *

24 For he looketh to the ends of the earth, [and] seeth under the whole heaven;

Isaiah 11:12*

12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

Matthew 24:31

31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32. Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer [is] nigh:

Revelation 7:1

1. And after these things I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

(Flat earth — you would think if God is the creator of everything,
that God would know and tell that the earth was round like a ball
— the God of the Bible doesn’t seem to know this)

Matthew 4:8

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

Luke 4:5 5

And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

(To see all the Kingdoms of the world from a mountain [at one time],
you need a flat earth)

Dr. J replies in another e-mail:

Dr. J:

>I am not concerned what the writers of the Bible understood, or thought.
God has plainly laid out that the Earth is round!

My reply:

(1) Not so plain — not in the Bible. Where are the verses to prove this?

Dr. J:

>Isa 40:21-22 Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told
you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations
of the earth? It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the
inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens
as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

My reply:

(2) A circle is 2 dimensional — it is flat.
This verse does not say anything about a sphere or a ball
— it says nothing about a spherical earth.

Dr. J:

>1 Ki 7:31 will give you a good example of how God discribes square.

My reply:

(3) This is the verse:

31 And the mouth of it within the chapiter and above [was] a cubit: but the mouth thereof [was] round [after] the work of the base, a cubit and an half: and also upon the mouth of it [were] gravings with their borders, foursquare, not round.

Here round is referring to a flat surface — it says after the work of the base.
This verse does not say anything about a ball or a sphere, only about a flat surface.

Dr. J:

>I firmly believe that the Earth is round, I still refer to the four corners of the Earth.
I know for a fact that Earth rotates while it encircles the Sun, yet I say the
sun rises and sets. What is your point?

My reply:

(4) You believe and I believe the Earth is spherical, but what does the Bible say?
The Bible does not state the Earth rotates. My point is that the Bible verses
indicate that the Earth is flat and is not a ball or sphere.  This shows the
ignorance of the Bible.  The Bible could not be inspired by the God of the Universe.

Dr. J:

>1 Cor 14:37-38 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual,
let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the
commandments of the Lord. But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.

>2 Pet 3:1-7 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both
which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: That ye may be
mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets,
and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers,
walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming?
for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the
beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the
word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the
water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed
with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now,
by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of
judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

My reply:

(5) I don’t see what these verses have to do with the Bible saying that
the Earth is flat. And, there is nothing in the Bible to show otherwise.

Thanks for your response,
